To Gutenberg or Not to Gutenberg

The New WordPress Editor

To Gutenberg or Not to Gutenberg,
That is the Question

Beautiful Idea is now building websites with the new Gutenberg WordPress content editor as well as converting sites built with the previous Classic page builders.

Change is a constant in web development and resiliency is the rule for online production. The rollout of Gutenberg, the new default WordPress editor, is no exception.

In 2018, WordPress announced that their 5.0 update would include the entirely new block-based editor that would replace the previous TinyMCE-based page Visual editor.

The WordPress announcement created uncertainty for agencies and developers. Would their existing websites break?

Developers and web agencies were uncertain about the functioning of sites created previously to the new, WordPress 5.0 Gutenberg block editor.

At the last minute, a “Classic Editor” plugin was developed that would insure that Gutenberg would not automatically replace the previous editor — thus breaking the entire website.

Will your site function with the WordPress 5.0 update?

Beautiful Idea can convert your site to the new Gutenberg editor, or you have the option of retaining the “Classic” editor.

Beautiful Idea has installed the Classic plugin on all managed sites, and it appears as if many WordPress theme developers prefer, and are continuing to use the classic editor.

To test the new Gutenberg editor, this website, Beautiful Idea, was created without any problems, but the conversion was not an automatic process.

While converting existing content to blocks is quite easy, each page and all sections of the page had to be manually created.
